Here are some current statistics regarding breast cancer:  

    • The National Breast Cancer Foundation states that 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed in her lifetime. 
    • Although it is rare, men can and do get breast cancer: According to the CDC, about I out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man. 
    • The average age of diagnosis for breast cancer for men in the United States is 67 (National Breast Cancer Foundation). The median age of diagnosis varies by race and ethnicity. 
    • The median age of diagnosis for women is 62 years old, meaning half are diagnosed at or before that age. (American Cancer Society) 

Risk Factors for Women 

    • Family history of breast cancer 
    • Early menstruation 
    • Late menopause 
    • Not having children or having children at an older age 
    • Dense breast tissue 
    • Alcohol consumption 
    • Genetic mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2  

Risk Factors for Men 

    • Family history of breast cancer (including female relatives)  
    • Increasing age  
    • Exposure to elevated levels of estrogen (e.g., due to certain medical conditions)  
    • History of radiation therapy to the chest
