FY2025 — Updated October 1, 2024  

It’s that time of year! Here is a very brief overview of changes, intended only to make you aware of areas that have changes moving forward. Many of these have new codes as well as new code also notes and new subcategories. There are a total of 324 codes added to the 2025 ICD-10-CM code set, effective October 1, 2024. This is intended as a reference guide only! 

Neoplasms (C00-D49) 

Hypoglycemia (E16.1 Other hypoglycemia or E16.2 Hypoglycemia, unspecified)

    • Levels: E16.A1, A.2, or A.3
    • Defined as blood sugar level<70mg/dl
    • Clinically established signs and symptoms

Endocrine, Nutritional, and Metabolic Diseases (E00-E89) 

    • Weight disorders are reviewed in this chapter 

Mental, Behavioral, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (F01-F99) 

    • Eating disorders reviewed in this chapter 

Diseases of the Nervous System (G00-G99) 

    • Epilepsy and seizure disorders 
    • Other disorders of the autonomic diseases of the nervous system 

Diseases of the Circulatory System (I00-I99) 

    • Use additional code, if applicable, to identify specific organ dysfunction 

Diseases of the Respiratory System (J00-J99) 

    • New subcategory added 

Diseases of the Digestive System (K00-K95) 

    • New subcategory added 

Diseases of the Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue (L00-L99) 

    • New codes 

Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Connective Tissue (M00-M99) 

    • Thirty-three new codes in this area 

Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Puerperium (000-09A) 

    • New text and use of additional codes 

Congenital Malformations, Deformations, and Chromosomal Abnormalities (Q00-Q99) 

    • New codes 

Injury, Poisonings, and Certain Other Consequences of External Causes (S00-T88) 

    • New subcategory and new codes 

Factors Influencing Health Status and Contact with Health Services (Z00-Z99) 

  • Estrogen and other hormones and factors receptor status 
  • New subcategories 
  • New codes

A Few Reminders 

    • Pay attention to abbreviations i.e., NEC/NOS etc. () parentheses, “Other” codes, Unspecified codes, excludes 1,2 
    • “Code first,” “Use additional code,” “In diseases classified elsewhere,” and “Code also” notes 
    • Diagnosis codes are to be used and reported at their highest number of characters available and to the HIGHEST level of specificity documented in the medical record. 
    • If there is conflicting documentation in the medical record, always QUERY the provider!
